Distribution Community Coordination Study
Project Detail
Project Location: Laurel, DE
Challenge:
- Integrating solar generation into various existing and new express feeders from substations presented a significant challenge.
- This required precise recloser settings at Points of Interconnection (POI) for seven distinct projects, ensuring seamless operation, system stability, and adherence to technical specifications.
- Additionally, some projects demanded modifications to existing configurations to replace outdated fuses and enhance system reliability.
Action:
- DST Engineers performed detailed analysis and configuration for reclosers, regulators, and capacitor banks across the projects.
- Utilizing CYME software for circuit modeling, transient stability analysis, and coordination studies, the team developed optimized settings.
- We collaborated closely with the client to access guidelines, settings sheets, and GWD prints.
- DST team actively participated in construction walkdowns and bi-weekly status meetings to ensure alignment with project goals and timely resolution of challenges.
DST Value Addition:
- DST provided comprehensive annotated GWD printouts with detailed device settings, updated feeder map markups, revised settings sheets, and an enhanced CYME circuit model.
- A modified transient stability analysis file (CYMTCC) was also delivered to reflect system stability with new equipment settings.
- The project outcomes ensured smooth solar generation integration into the feeders, enhanced reliability, and compliance with operational standards.
